Development of Fatehsagar Lake Road
Udaipur
This project is part of Udaipur Municipal Corporation’s broader sustainable development efforts, focused on reducing traffic congestion, improving access to green spaces, and enhancing the ecological health of the city's lakes. The proposed street upgrade spans approximately 1.00 km, from Siksha Bhavan Circle to Fateh Sagar Lake, which is a vital link between the historic walled city and one of Udaipur’s most visited tourist hotspots. The corridor experiences heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours, due to its proximity to landmarks like the Ustaad Laxman Singh Pahalwan Bridge and Fateh Sagar Lake. With a narrow and varying Right of Way (RoW), the street faces recurring congestion and lacks essential pedestrian infrastructure, placing vulnerable users at risk.
The Urban Lab’s approach for street improvement involves reimagining the congested and unsafe corridor as a structured, pedestrian-friendly, and aesthetically enhanced ‘slow street’. The scope of work includes redesign of the street, cross-section planning, junction improvement, along with provision of street furniture and signage. The project involves collaborative design development sessions with key stakeholders. The interventions not only aim to improve daily mobility and safety for residents and tourists but also serve as a scalable model for tourist and heritage-sensitive development across the city.
