Rejuvenation of Paanch Amba Lake Park
Gandhinagar
The Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation (GMC) is undertaking an integrated urban improvement project in the Vavol area to enhance recreational infrastructure and public realm quality. The initiative focuses on the rejuvenation of Paanch Amba Lake, development of an adjoining 14,973 sqm park, and beautification of the connecting street.
The Urban Lab’s approach is to transform the dry lake into a vibrant waterfront destination. The rejuvenation of Paanch Amba Lake integrates development of a 14,973 sq m park to enhance recreational opportunities and provide green public space for the community. The park development will provide much-needed green and recreational space for the local community. A new RCC stormwater channel will collect runoff from the street and divert it to the lake, supporting ecological restoration. Street-level enhancements include continuous footpaths, a dedicated cycle track, green buffers, organized parking, vending zones, and the design of safe, accessible junctions.
These improvements prioritize placemaking, non-motorized mobility, and road safety, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive waterfront environment.
