Planning and Design of Knowledge Hub Precinct

The Knowledge Hub precinct in Gandhinagar is a prominent educational cluster comprising institutions such as Pandit Deendayal Energy University, Gujarat Institute of Disaster Management, and Institute of Seismological Research. Envisioned as a pedestrian-oriented academic district, the project focuses on creating a safe, accessible, and well-connected environment for students, researchers, and visitors.

Commissioned by Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority, the project involved the redesign of approximately 6.5 km of streets within TP Scheme 19 (Raysan). It adopts a ‘Complete Streets’ approach to deliver an integrated mobility network. Key interventions include redesigned road layouts, dedicated cycle tracks, continuous pedestrian pathways, improved junction geometry, and organized parking systems. The project also incorporates street furniture, landscaping, street lighting, and coordinated utility planning, along with seamless integration with the upcoming metro corridor.

The project has transformed the precinct into a multi-modal, non-motorized transport (NMT)-friendly environment. It enhances last-mile connectivity to public transport and fosters safer street usage. By prioritizing walkability, cycling, and public realm design, the Knowledge Hub now functions as a vibrant and inclusive campus district that supports both mobility and social interaction.
