Perumbakkam Lakefront Development

Perumbakkam Lake, 229.15 acres, drains into the ecologically vital Pallikaranai Marshland. Surrounded by urban development, the lake faces degradation from pollution, encroachment, and siltation. In 2023, The Urban Lab and Samanea Consultancy launched a science-based restoration project to revive the lake, benefiting local communities, biodiversity, and interconnected water bodies. The initiative also informs broader state and national freshwater conservation and policy efforts.
