Parking Study and Parking Plan in North-West Zone of Ahmedabad

Parking Study and Parking Plan in North-West Zone of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad, with over 39 lakh vehicles, faces rising congestion and demand for parking, worsened by unregulated and haphazard on-street parking. Most roads lack clear demarcation, and parking is largely free, leading to inefficient use of road space and reduced carriageway capacity. To address this, AMC plans to implement its revised Parking Policy 2023. The project aims to develop a structured, policy-driven parking system to improve urban mobility, ease congestion, support enforcement, and ensure the efficient use of public space across the city.

The Urban Lab is supporting AMC by undertaking detailed parking management surveys, GIS-based mapping, and policy benchmarking to prepare a comprehensive parking management plan. The plan encompasses demand forecasting, identification of suitable on-street and off-street parking solutions, development of dynamic pricing models, and formulation of strategies for enforcement, shared parking, and park & ride facilities. The result is a data-driven framework that identifies potential parking locations, introduces zone-based pricing, and empowers AMC to effectively regulate, monetize, and optimize parking operations. Key deliverables include GIS-based parking maps, policy toolkits, a parking operations manual, and implementation support to facilitate streamlined, long-term urban mobility planning.
