Designing Green Mobility Zone (GMZ)
Udaipur
The Urban Lab was engaged under the CapaCITIES II initiative, funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, to support Udaipur in designing a Green Mobility Zone (GMZ) within its historic walled city.
Udaipur’s historic walled city is a bustling hub of life, heritage, and tourism but its narrow lanes face challenges of congestion and pollution. To address this, The Urban Lab supported the city in designing a Green Mobility Zone (GMZ), which aims to transform conventional mobility into cleaner, people-friendly options.
Through extensive surveys, on-ground mapping, and stakeholder discussions, we assessed current travel and freight patterns and identified infrastructure needs for transitioning to electric vehicles and non-motorized transport. The project sets the foundation for Udaipur to reduce emissions, improve air quality, and enhance the experience of residents and visitors while preserving its rich heritage.
