Road Safety Design for LBS Road

Mumbai

The project is an initiative under World Resources Institute's Cities and Transport Program to support the Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS) road improvement project in Mumbai. The street redesign aims to enhance safety of all users.

The Urban Lab worked with World Resources Institute (WRI), Washington to prepare the detailed design of a 9.3 km pilot corridor. The proposed design included provision for walkways, ramps, pedestrian crossings, lane markings, and junctions. The design was developed considering the ‘Pedestrian First’ policy by Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), IRC codes, and the road safety design standards developed by WRI. The final drawings were taken up for tender preparation and implementation by MCGM.
