Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) is a ‘Centre of Excellence’ established by the Indian Machine Tool Manufacturers’ Association (IMTMA) with exhibition and conference facilities. It is a 58-acre complex with 1,10,000 sqm of exhibition area. The site is located in the west of Bengaluru at the intersection of two toll roads. It caters to about 40,000 visitors per day during event days. During this time, the exhibition centre faces multiple traffic and circulation issues. The entry/ exit gets blocked, and the junction outside BIEC gets congested, resulting in long queues and a poor experience for visitors.

The Urban Lab is engaged as the technical advisor for traffic and transport solutions to BIEC. The project scope includes detailed diagnostics of the existing situation, projecting future scenarios, parking assessment and stakeholder consultations with the Government of Karnataka, Bengaluru Development Authority, National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), traffic police and other agencies. The final outcome is a set of General Arrangement Drawings that depict the revised junction design, entry and exit points, location of toll booths and land acquisition requirements. The Urban Lab is also assisting BIEC to plan and design for alternate entrances and exits, internal circulation, drop off and pick up points and wayfinding within the facility.
