Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) and Aangan Architects undertook redesigning and development of Athwagate junction in Surat. The project aims at junction beautification, achieving pedestrian safety, and junction geometry improvement.

The Urban Lab worked with Aangan Architects to redesign the junction. Athwagate is a multi-arm junction and a major node connecting eastern and western parts of the city. The Urban Lab worked on preparation of traffic impact assessment and junction improvement design. The design reorganises existing activities like shared auto stands along designated routes and discourages haphazard parking at the junction to improve its efficiency.
