Sabarmati riverfront development has transformed the area into a city level public space. The reclaimed land on both sides of the river is developed as residential, commercial, and recreational spaces. The street network provides good connectivity to the area. The riverfront is poorly accessible as there is a lack of public transport connectivity.

The Urban Lab conducted a research project to improve accessibility of the riverfront through an integrated public transport system. The outcome of the research is a conceptual design encompassing an integrated transit system of light rail, buses, and ferry services. The design is proposed for 20 km stretch along both sides of the river. The design if implemented will enhance the connectivity to the riverfront, comfort of users, and footfall in the area.
