Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) is preparing a Development Plan for the extended areas of Bhubaneswar and has appointed AIILSG as consultants. The intention is to develop a land use plan, road network plan and infrastructure plan under the Orissa Town Planning and Improvement Trust Act, 1956. The plan extends to upcoming new areas like the Infosys SEZ and nearby towns of Khorda and Jatni.

The Urban Lab is working as an advisor to BDA and AIILSG to prepare a road network that integrates with the planned areas of Bhubaneswar and the old temple town. The layout is being prepared keeping in mind hierarchy, completeness and a coherent pattern. Safety, connectivity and ease of mobility are the guiding principles. The network is envisaged in the form of rings and radials that form distinct sectors/ blocks, which are then served by a grid network. New connections across railway lines and river/ canals are planned. The plan is being finalised now and shall be put up for stakeholder consultation soon.
