Rejuvenation of unused under-bridge spaces, Dwarka expressway, Gurgaon

Gurgaon

Rejuvenation of unused under-bridge spaces competition seeks to generate new ideas to improve the space below the Dwarka expressway to develop the space in a more sustainable way and resolve the issues of the city.

The design creates 10 vibrant spaces that cater to recreational and cultural activities, benefiting both the local community and passersby. These flexible spaces are designed to accommodate a variety of activities and users, from sitting and relaxing, to food courts, vending zones, play areas for children and youth and an amphitheatre for hosting events like street music, small plays, and workshops, among others.

The braided pathways underneath the bridge provide linear, active spaces designed to engage people of all ages and genders, with natural landscaping and panoramic views of inter-connected areas. With sustainability in mind, the spaces are well connected by public transport, cycle tracks, and pedestrian walkways, ensuring last mile connectivity. The design received a special mention from Vastukul School of Innovation.
