Bus shelter Competition

The Urban Lab participated in the ‘Bus Shelter Competition’ organised by NHAI and CoA. The design philosophy behind ‘Bus-Ashray’ was to craft a modern, user-centric structure specifically tailored for Indian highways. This innovative shelter aims to provide a welcoming experience for transit users, establishing stress-free pause-points—a place to reach and find respite. ‘Bus-Ashray’ redefines the conventional bus shelter with a minimalistic design that prioritises user comfort.

By addressing issues identified through user behaviour studies, it seeks to enhance the overall user experience. Segmented into long term, medium term, and short term sections, it enables seamless movement for pedestrians and bus passengers. Ashray's versatile design incorporates materials like mild steel and tactile pavers for affordability and environmental sensitivity. The iconic structure adapts to climatic conditions with a flexible roof angle and, composed of modular members, ensures easy replication and extension, ensuring flexibility in design as required. The design development is based on the following strategies:

1.Modular approach
2.Protective Role
3.Accessibility and Safety
4.Minimalistic Design
5.User-Centric Approach
6.Iconic Structure
7.Zoned Functionality
8.Universal Wayfinding
9.Flexible Seating Design
