City Logistics Plan, Bengaluru

Bengaluru

"City Logistics Plan for Bengaluru," commissioned by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), focuses on revolutionising logistics in Bengaluru with a dual objective – one, it intends to improve efficiency in logistics; two, it aims to mitigate emissions associated with the city's logistics activities. The project developed a comprehensive city-wide approach along with advanced strategies and innovative supply chain interventions needed to tackle current issues faced in freight management to make it sustainable and future ready.

The study undertook a rapid assessment of freight activities in the city with three priority sectors understood by developing a deeper understanding of the city’s freight patterns, associated challenges and potential measures for their improvement. A project report was delivered to the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) with implementable action plans and their implementation framework. This was developed through a meticulous reconnaissance survey, stakeholder mapping, and the workshops with stakeholders (both public and private), an in-depth analysis to develop a robust City Logistics Plan. These include improvement in the transport networks, urban street infrastructure, suggestions for multimodal integration and various safety improvement measures. The team also played a pivotal role in the capacity building of DULT to undertake FPCs, and conducting workshops for stakeholders in the future.
