Advisory Support for Mobility in Dehradun

Dehradun

McKinsey & Co. on behalf of the Government of Uttarakhand is working on strategies to decongest Dehradun. With the increasing GDP of the state, private vehicles have drastically increased in Dehradun. This has brought out the need to manage mobility in the city. The Urban Lab is appointed by McKinsey & Co. as the transport planning expert for the project.

The Urban Lab is involved in assessing three key aspects of mobility–including public transport, junction improvement, and parking. The team has conducted various site visits, primary surveys, stakeholder consultations and secondary studies to understand the complete existing situation in the city. For public transport, a revamped city bus system is proposed, with trunk network, feeder network and operations plan. Further, recommendations for institutional structure and operating model are also provided. For junction improvement, ten key junctions are re-designed and are to be implemented in the form of tactical urbanism. Lastly for parking, a pilot road stretch is identified and parking management strategies are recommended for the same.
