Abhijit is the founder of 'The Urban Lab', where he mentors and leads teams to provide practical solutions for creating liveable cities. With an experience of over twenty years, his work spans a variety of areas including urban and transport planning, urban design, and urban management integrating services like consultancy, research, training, advocacy, and capacity building. His key interest areas in the field of urban transport and urban planning are land use and transport, street design, transit-oriented development, and transport policies. He has a PhD in planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad and Master of Planning from SPA, Delhi.
Abhijit is a visiting faculty at CEPT University, Ahmedabad. Prior to founding The Urban Lab, he worked with CEPT University as an Associate Professor at the Centre of Excellence in Urban Transport. Abhijit led the design team for Bus Rapid Transit projects in Ahmedabad, Surat, Indore, and Hubli Dharwad. The scope of work included preparing detailed project reports and detailed design for the BRTS, quality control for site work, coordinating with local authorities for preparing the institutional structure, business plan, and transit policies.
Abhijit is trained by Sustainable Urban Transport Program (SUTP) and GIZ as a trainer in urban transport and sustainable mass transit options. He conducts training programs for urban transport professionals across South East Asia. He has also successfully completed a trainer program in 'Case Teaching' by The World Bank. Abhijit is an avid reader, traveller, and a photographer.
Shelly is the founder of 'The Urban Lab'. She mentors the research team and is involved in business development activities. She has worked as a consultant, researcher, and academician during her professional career of twenty years. Her interests are areas of strategic planning, urban management, participatory governance, and practices for improving quality of life in urban areas. Shelly is pursuing PhD in planning from CEPT University, Ahmedabad. She has completed her Master of Planning from SPA, Delhi.
Shelly works with CEPT University as an Adjunct faculty and has been teaching post-graduation students at the Faculty of Management, CEPT University, Ahmedabad since 2013. She facilitates studio programs to train students in the areas of urban governance and management. Earlier, she worked for six years as part of The World Bank Institute team to design and facilitate online training on disaster risk management.
Shelly is trained by LTA Academy, Singapore in Urban Transport Planning and as a trainer for online teaching of disaster risk management by The World Bank Institute. She has an interest in exploring new cities and exploring their management practices.
Sandeep is an architect and urban designer with fourteen years of work experience in the transport sector. He mentors the design team at The Urban Lab for developing walkable and accessible public spaces and transit facilities. He completed Master of Urban Design from CEPT University, and Bachelor of Architecture from SCET, Surat.
Sandeep is currently leading an urban design project in Kochi, that involves preparation of street design guidelines and tactical urbanism strategy for Fort Kochi and Mattancharry area. Few of the previous work at The Urban Lab includes street design and urban improvement projects in Pune, Mumbai, Siliguri, Surat, and Bengaluru.
Sandeep is a visiting faculty with Anant University, Ahmedabad. He teaches urban design and transport related courses to architecture and urban design students. Sandeep has worked with the Centre of Excellence, CEPT University for planning, design, and implementation of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) systems in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Amritsar. He is trained to lead programs on sustainable urban mobility by International Urban Training Centre, South Korea (2011), and GIZ, Germany under their Sustainable Urban Mobility in Asia (SUMA) program, Beijing (2008).
Aanan is an architect and transport planner with ten years of national and international experience. She mentors the planning and research team at The Urban Lab. Currently, she is pursuing PhD at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. She pursued her Master of Planning with specialisation in transport planning and management from CEPT University, Ahmedabad, and Bachelor of Architecture from MSU, Baroda.
Aanan worked with the planning and design team of Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) in Ahmedabad. Her scope of work included preparing mobility plans, detailed project reports, and feasibility study focusing on the BRTS. Currently, she is based in Belgium. She worked with the cycling association of Belgium (Fietsersbond) to advocate ‘cycling’ as an everyday mode of transportation in urban areas. She was involved with the Port of Antwerp in preparing a bicycle master plan for the port area. As part of her doctoral research, she is exploring the role of bike infrastructure in creating sustainable last-mile deliveries with cargo bikes. She was trained in sustainable transportation at Technische Universitat, Dresden, Germany in 2007.
Anuja is an urban planner with work experience of three years in transport and urban planning. She completed her graduation in planning (B.Plan) and post-graduation in urban and regional planning (MURP) with specialisation in transport from CEPT University.
Anuja coordinates and manages transport planning and design projects at The Urban Lab. Currently, she is working on developing a seamless mobility and connectivity plan for Fort Kochi Mattancharry (FKM) area in Kochi. The work involves developing a local connectivity map, identifying opportunity spaces to carry out placemaking and tactical urbanism activities, developing street design guidelines for FKM area, and designing a transit map for Greater Cochin Development area. Anuja is also involved in developing a low carbon urban freight action plan for Kochi.
Anuja has previously worked on projects including decongesting streets and designing junctions for the core city of Siliguri, transport masterplan for Rajkot Smart City, strategic traffic and transport plan for Pune Smart City. She was involved in conducting research on assessing the impact of parking directives in Ahmedabad and developing an access plan for Sabarmati riverfront.
Sarang is an architect and transport planner with a work experience of five years in the field of architecture, urban design, and planning. He completed his graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from the Academy of Architecture, Mumbai, and post-graduation in urban and regional planning (MURP) with specialisation in transport from CEPT University.
Sarang coordinates and manages urban planning and design projects at The Urban Lab. He is currently working on street design projects in Ahmedabad, Kochi, and Chennai. He is providing traffic and transport advisory for 300-acre development by Bagmane Group, Bengaluru and for Bangalore International Exhibition Centre, Bengaluru. He is working on the masterplan for Jaipur and Jaipur-Gandhinagar station redevelopment.
Previously, Sarang has worked on traffic and transport masterplan for Kuwait University, masterplan for Dadra and Nagar Haveli, project management for Mysuru Public Bicycle Sharing System, and Pune street design project. Prior to joining The Urban Lab, Sarang worked on urban, architecture, and interior design projects. His strengths include data analysis, project management, and building collaborative relationship with stakeholders.
Neha is an engineer and transport planner with six years of work experience in civil engineering, renewable energy, and transport sector. She completed her graduation in civil engineering (B.Tech.) from CEPT University and post-graduation in transport and city planning (MSc) from University College London (UCL).
Neha coordinates and manages research and consultancy projects at The Urban Lab. Currently, she is researching on the evaluation of Public Bicycle Sharing (PBS) systems in India and exploring potential research opportunities with Indian and global research institutes. Her consultancy projects include preparing the masterplan for Jaipur and Jaipur Gandhinagar station redevelopment, masterplan and design for street design in Chennai, and project management for Public Cycle Sharing System, Mysuru.
Previously, Neha has worked on research projects focusing on understanding bus and rail usage trends and potential for Mobility as a Service (MaaS) in the UK. She interned on the European Commission’s project, Multi-modal Optimisation for Road-space in Europe (MORE) under Prof. Peter Jones, UCL Department of Civil Engineering. Her key interests include research aimed at improving public transport in Indian cities, transport planning, and transport policy. Neha was part of the Indian National Women’s team for Netball in Commonwealth Games 2010. She is awarded by the Shaheed Rajeev Pandey award and the Shaheed Kaushal Yadav award for her excellence in sports.
Kshitija is an architect with a year of work experience in architecture and interior design. She completed graduation in Architecture (B.Arch.) from Rachana Sansad Academy of Architecture, Dadar.
Kshitija works on transport planning and street design projects at The Urban Lab. Currently, she is working on preparation of GIS map for Jaipur railway station redevelopment and Chennai street design project. She is assisting in preparation of drawings for the street design guidelines for Fort Kochi Mattancharry area in Kochi, and design of 100 junctions in Ahmedabad.
Kshitija did her internship at the World Resource Institute (WRI), Mumbai where she worked on street design projects. She worked as an Architect at D.P. Associate, Bandra for developing resort design for an architecture project in Bali. She participated in NASA competition, and her team received the Louis I Kahn Trophy, 2013-2014.
Raghav is an architect with a year of work experience in architecture and interior design. He has completed graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from SCET, Surat.
Raghav works on transport planning and urban design projects at The Urban Lab. His current projects include traffic and transportation advisory for Bagmane Tech Parks, Bengaluru, and street design projects in Ahmedabad and Kochi.
Before joining The Urban Lab, Raghav worked on interior design projects at Aavirat Architects, Ahmedabad. He did an internship at HCPDPM, Ahmedabad and worked on urban design and architecture projects.
Sukanksha is an architect and urban manager with two years of work experience in architecture, interior, and planning projects. She completed her graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from PIADS, Nagpur and post-graduation in urban development and management (M.Tech.) from TERI SAS, New Delhi.
Sukanksha works with the research team at The Urban Lab. Her current research areas include road safety and participatory governance. She is also working on mapping the road network for Fort Kochi Mattancharry in Kochi and an analysis report on traffic management for Bagmane Group.
Sukanksha interned at The Urban Lab and with the planning division in Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA). She worked as a Junior Architect with Agrawal Constructions, Bhopal.
Ninto is an architect. He completed his graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from Sasi Creative School of Architecture, Coimbatore.
Ninto works on transport planning and urban design projects at The Urban Lab. His current projects include street design for Chennai and masterplan for Jaipur and Jaipur-Gandhinagar station redevelopment.
Before joining The Urban Lab, Ninto did his internship at HCPDPM, Ahmedabad and Habitat Technology Group, Trivandrum. During his internships, he worked on urban design and architectural projects.
Sreenidhi is an architect. She completed her graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from Institute of Architecture and Planning, Nirma University, Ahmedabad.
Sreenidhi works on urban design and transport planning projects at The Urban Lab. Her current project includes concept proposal for the Knowledge Corridor in Gandhinagar and street layouts for Chennai Street development project.
Before joining The Urban lab, Sreenidhi worked as a junior architect for Sandarbh Design Studio, Bengaluru and interned at Shelter Associates, Pune. During her internship, she worked on architecture projects and documentation of urban slums in various regions of Maharashtra.
Khyati is an architect. She completed her graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from L. J. School of Architecture, Ahmedabad.
Khyati works on urban design projects at The Urban Lab. Her current work includes development of street views for the conceptual design of the Knowledge Corridor in Gandhinagar, and layouts for street design in Chennai.
Before joining The Urban Lab, Khyati interned at Dilip Soni Architects, Ahmedabad. During her internship, she worked on housing projects.
Reshma is an architect and transport planner with an experience of two and a half years in the field of architecture and interior design. She completed her graduation in architecture (B.Arch) from Manipal School of Architecture and Planning and post-graduation in Master of Planning (Urban Transport Systems) from CEPT University.
Reshma works on transport planning and design projects at The Urban Lab. Her current work includes street design and detailing for Chennai Mega Street project.
Prior to joining The Urban Lab, Reshma worked as a Project Architect with Qatar Design Consortium, Qatar and as an Assistant Professor with Manipal School of Architecture, MAHE. She also interned with WRI, Bengaluru where she worked on Kerala Urban Transport Policy.
Aviral is an architect and urban designer with four years of work experience in architecture and urban projects. He completed his graduation in architecture (B.Arch.) from the Amity University, Lucknow and post-graduation in architecture (M.Arch.) with specialisation in urban design (majors) and conservation (minors) from CEPT University, Ahmedabad.
Aviral works on urban design projects at The Urban Lab. Currently, he is working on the Knowledge Hub design project in Gandhinagar, street design for Koteshwar-Bhat Road, Ahmedabad and design guidelines for transport and traffic of Jaipur Railway station, Jaipur.
Before joining The Urban Lab, Aviral worked with CRDF and CEPT University as a research and teaching associate in the planning and conservation field. He also worked as an architect on residential and institutional projects at Mandviwala Qutub and Associates, Mumbai.
